The season of Lent provides us the opportunity to understand our dependence on our Savior, Jesus Christ, through every aspect of our lives.
As we walk along with Jesus in the wilderness, we will be examining the depths of our sin, experiencing temptation, and through it all exalting the name of Christ in anticipation of His resurrection.
“The Throne” was written in response to this understanding, and we declare these truths through corporate worship at WestSide.
Hebrews 4:14-16 is the text source we used in writing the lyrics, and the song is structured in a way that reflects this text.
Verses 1 and 2 represent our acknowledgement that we serve a God who knows our suffering (Hebrews 4:14-15). The chorus is our response to this truth which comes directly from verse 16, which says,
“Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.”
Temptation plagues us daily, and some days will be harder than others. Our prayer is that this song and the others on this soundtrack will help ground you in the truth of God’s Word: that we serve a God who knows our temptations more than we do. Because of this, we can respond by drawing near to His throne and finding help in our time of need.
