Lent: Songs for the Season

Luke 9: 23-24

“And he said to all, ‘If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me. For whoever would save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will save it.'”

As we continue our journey through the church calendar we find ourselves in the season of Lent. Lent is a season of preparation. It prepares us for the resurrection of Jesus Christ.

Lent invites us to see the sufferings of Jesus, reflect on his journey to the cross and reminds us that we can’t have a resurrection without a crucifixion. Lent invites us to symbolically walk with Jesus through the desert and to the cross as we reflect on our own humanity and empty ourselves of lesser things to be filled with the greater things in the good news of the Gospel.

As we journey through this season together we will be singing some new songs in our Sunday morning gatherings. These songs have been written to help aid our journey through the season of Lent. We would encourage you to take some time and pair some of these songs with your daily readings, prayers and reflections throughout the season. We hope that these songs, as we sing them together and as you listen on your own, will aid you in our journey through Lent as we see the sufferings of Jesus and reflect on our own lives in light of the coming cross, grave and resurrection.

It’s all about Jesus.
